Adoption Tails: Jagger, Kate & Helena

Jagger, Kate & Helena, now Jagger, Peaches & Honey

1 day: They have yet to eat since Friday morning. The owner has cleaned out 1 poo and 1 wee from the trays ("never been so excited to clean out a litter tray"). The owner's brother mentioned that it was a little noisy overnight, scratching at the flyscreen and playing. The toys put into the room during the day were in different places the next morning. The owner suspects it is Jagger. Kate and Helena will be called Peaches and Honey, not sure which will be which until she sees them.

1 week: The owner thinks the cats are going well. She does not think they are going to the toilet as much as they should be. It's hard to tell who is eating as she is not in the room with them but Jagger definitely is. He has used the litter tray in front of the owner and so has one of the girls. Jagger purrs a lot, he won't allow touches yet. All three cats do like to play and all three have been out playing. Jagger will roll on the floor and one of the girls rolls round on the cat scratcher. The owners will prop the door open overnight and see if any of the cats want to come out and explore the house whilst it is quiet and dark. They've got crimesafe screens in place and the hall door closed so the cats will only have access to their existing safe room, the owner's room and the main bedroom.

1 month: The owner has worked out who is who after checking against the photos in the Shelterbuddy system - Kate (Peaches) and Helena (Honey). Jagger is a food monster and he will try to take Peaches' treats from her but she gives him a smack. The cats haven't come out to the rest of the house during the day yet. Peach is quite happy to walk past the owner to leave the room when she wants. "She is quite sassy." The owner is also sure Peach has walked over her in bed at night, doesn't stay but it's really positive. Jagger lets the owner stroke his feet gently while he is dozing and doesn't recoil as long as the stroking is kept short and sweet. He is getting more tolerant each time. He even came out and got up on the desk to sit by the window this morning while the owner sat on the floor. "I am very happy with their progress, it has been very quick in the last 3 days." Their room door is left open for them at night and if the owners are sitting on the lounge quietly, they come out and start running around, up and down the stairs, chasing balls, running through tunnels and generally making a racket all night. Jagger loves sitting on the cat seat on the balcony at night. Peaches is out there a lot too. The owner is pretty sure Honey comes out at night. She actually came out of hiding when breakfast was put out this morning while the owner was still in the room. The owner thinks all the hard work is really starting to pay off, she was worried but can see now Honey will be her sweet little girl and Peaches & Jagger are going to be challenging as "the ship has sailed for the two of them! They are already partners in crime, Jagger follows her lead."

I missed it

 This morning a nice lady came in and adopted Helena, Kate and Jagger!

 

How is that for a brilliant end to a brilliant week!

Later this afternoon a lovely young woman from DY came to adopt Bear from foster. He will be a happy cat.

 Timmi and Hugo went to be desexed today. I am not usually at Safe when the fixed ones come back. Timmi was off her face with the happy drugs that they gave her. She is on Better Row and easily levited to the high shelf, and shedded an Elizabethan collar on the way. After dinner she will sleep like a log.

Hugo is to be moved to the main room (to Kate and Helena's) but his condo wasn't quite ready so he went back into Better Row. Good thing until his pong evaporates. I took home his dirty bedding and had to drive with all my windows open.

 This morning half a dozen Chinese young women arrived with cameras, tripods and other equipment. They are learning how to make documentaries, I gather. One was the director. There were a pair of cameras that the others operated. The cats and us were the actors. Tim got interviewed. Jade brought in a "cat" to board and I did the paperwork. We even did a mock adoption of Arlo and Annie. Let's hope that it was a warm up for the real thing tomorrow!

Of course with all that excitement and the distribution of chicken, I didn't even think of taking any photos so will use Joy's from Wednesday.

Kittah and Tosca were surrendered from the same family. They are not in a condo together because they didn't really like each other at home even though their eyebrows look sisterly. They both had dental work yesterday and are on soft food for a while. They got chicken juice.

I put up the Top Cat for Maggie. I think it was her first opportunity and she had a lovely time. She even relaxed in the hammock. Billy is having the overnight go. 

Jagger is in the play place. He hid in a box most of the day. When it came to chicken time I wheeled in his stand alone. But he was too canny to jump in while I was close by. So he is still there. 

It doesn't matter because the space where his stand alone was, by the filing cabinet, has another empty stand alone there. It was moved from Isolation because new condos have arrived (thank you, Geoff) from Mona Vale vets who don't use them any more. They will be set up in Isolation and the Royal Cannin monster will be dismantled and discarded. Hurrah! It was originally built as a temporary display place for cats at shows. It is very hard to clean properly. And we will get more wire enclosures to take the place of the small AWL condos which will move into Incoming.

Joy spent time today trying to get good photos of our paired cats. The new website only has one photo per cat or pair of cats. So it is important to have a good photo.

It is impossible to get a good photo of Arlo and Annie. He is either sitting on top of her or she is behind him or squashed on the self below. Vicky took videos of me giving him a good cuddle to prove that he is an affectionate cat. All I can say is that he has very sharp claws. This was after a worm was discovered in their litter box and before they got a worming pill each. He is 5.2 Kg. Check the FB page.

I got a photo of Venus and Muffin who both came out into the Top Cat eventually.  Not up to Joy's standard!

The bolder of the two came out first and was interested to meet Jagger (who kept looking up to his old condo as though he wanted to jump back there but he went into the supermodels condo instead.)

Pairs

 There are only 2 cats left on Better Row: Ella and Hugo. Katie wanted to move Hugo to Jagger's condo. No, Jagger hasn't been adopted. He is in the stand alone by the filing cabinet and Maggie's 4 are in the play place. He is not too happy about it. But Maggie's lot are.

I moved Hana. It wasn't hard. And when she was moved she took up her usual position on the top shelf in her hairy bed watching. (Thank you to the vollie who dehaired the bed. It is probably just as hairy by now).

The entire bottom row is occupied by pairs of cats. Charlie and Champ are a loving pair.

Blossom's black and white boys are heavy enough to be desexed. Her tabby girls are still tiny.

And Timi is doing well. She and her sister's eyes didn't develop well due to their mum having herpes while they were in utero. Her sister had two very swollen eye balls and didn't survive the operation/anesthetic. Timi has one good eye and really enjoyed her first taste of chicken this afternoon. She proceeded to tip her water bowl into her litter tray and got wet in the process!

 She is a very nice lady. She was going to check with the husband and do the paperwork tomorrow but decided not to risk it and did the paperwork today and will pick him up tomorrow. They will be very happy together.

And Klaus was picked up, early, by his family. He will be happy to be home again even though he had a good long play in the play place today.

Lola has given up Opie's room. She stationed herself in different places in the main room before settling down on the drying table out back. I had to entice her back to her condo with a soft food tube.

Don't know why Hugo has stitches in his tummy. Shouldn't he be wearing an Elizabethan collar? He is above Thelma and Louise who should be available soon.

Also soon to be on the for adoption list should be Holly and Arlo & Annie. I spent some time trying to get decent photos of them without the bars. I am sure that Joy's photos are better.

No surprise that Roger was adopted by a vollie before hitting the adoption list. I gather he has gone home to live with his sister who looks just as cute.

And Jagger was left in charge of the Top Cat. I wonder if he will still be in it by morning.

Short orders

 Again I had to take DH to the eye doc today so was only at Safe long enough to feed everybody their breakfast. When I got home at 10:30am to pick up DH to take him, my Cody posed under the poppies.

He was still there when we got home after 3pm! Cats do spend 22 hours a day sleeping, just like ants. But they sleep very lightly so need the extra hours.

I was surprised when the first new vollies arrived shortly after 9am Evidently 9am to 1pm are the new vollie hours. Traffic will make them arrive like Brown's cows.

Loki (Maggie's all black) was adopted over the weekend. The woman who came to line up Astro on Friday brought her 2 daughters in on Sunday. One girl immediately had an allergic reaction to our cats so they went home empty handed despite all the preparation the Mum had done. We know a lovely dog that they can adopt!

Belle went home with her vollie. Kat has moved into her condo. It is smaller than her previous condo and won't offer her the same variety of beds.  It was also pretty warm in there this morning.

Sorry to be late

 When I arrived there seemed to be all the kittens running around the Main room floor . . . aided and abetted by vollies and a small boy. They had a lovely time because Maggie's kittens have been moved out of the play place into one stand alone and a condo and they have a serious playtime mojo!

Eventually they got put back and other cats were allowed out for Robyn to take photos of. She is helping to write up profiles of the cats for the Safe website. In the quiet time before she arrived, I opened Jane (Juliette)'s door. She ventured out much further than before. Doesn't look like the weight management crunchies work too well if you don't get any exercise.

Jagger had popped into her condo earlier and she wasn't pleased. And it doesn't look like Devo was impressed by him either. They both need a name change perhaps.

But her condo mates would rather stay in. Robyn forced them out by giving their condo a good, overdue, scrub. Soon as she was done, Sidney and Sophia moved back into their black bin.

 Despite there having been no adoptions listed on the website over the weekend, in fact adoptions happened. We had run out of space on the www/cloud/wherever so the website hadn't been updated.

First news:

Rosie and Callie were adopted, together of course. That was a huge shock to Jagger who, when let out for his afternoon run, tried to run into their condo but couldn't because it was being cleaned. He settled on Lyra's condo above Rosie and Callie's. Lyra wasn't too thrilled.

I eventually enticed him out with some treats and got him back (via the top of the condos) to his own place.

Adele is between Lyra and Jagger because the two fluffy tailed kittens who were adopted before they got listed by a vollie have gone home. She wasn't happy in the morning. She wouldn't get out of the carry cage that transported her there to eat her breakfast. So I put a modesty cloth over the big window. Some time later she got up on her shelf to see what was going on. So I took the modesty cloth and the carry cage away.

Her kittens, Billy and Britney, are in the stand alone that loiters beside the filing cabinet.

That means that the only cats in Isolation are Maggie's kittens. Maggie, who is the only one with ringworm traces left, has been moved into Incoming near the wormy cats there. Her kittens went to Olympic Park for the Cat Show over the weekend. They had such a lovely time meeting and greeting the crowds that they no longer want to run out of their enclosure but just want to play and be freindly/fed.

Copper and Citrine were picked up this afternoon by a young couple who looked very happy.

 As was Deleon (deaf Leon) who when home with a mother and her adult son who have an outdoor enclosure prepared for him. I was so thrilled to expedite their adoption that I forgot to print the contract. Katie will email it to them for them to sign. There is no way he will come back as they are bespotted already.

Best news last: Opie has been adopted. He will be picked up on Sunday. By our Ark! And will be best friends with Pearl.

 We have lots of pairs of cats.

Jack and Luna, the kittens with the long, will be fluffy tails will be picked up on Monday. They will go home with a vollie and never made it to the Adoption list.

Below them are Charlie and Champ who are settling back into the condo after being in foster home.

They entertained Jagger this afternoon. He hid under their bed. Then he moved on to Rosie and Callie's condo and into their carry cage. Which made it easy for me to get him back into his condo for his share of chicken. . . . . he forgives anything for chicken.

And beyond them is Mabel and Tori. Very hard to get Tori to stay still for a photo.

They are below Virgo who has had her second curtain removed. She was very keen for chicken.

Not to mention Donatella and McQueen. Arlo was sitting on top of Annie today. Usually he pushes her to the front of the hammock. She is the shy one. He loves cuddles. Go figure.

Third time lucky?

 For Max!

This afternoon Bron came in to do the paperwork on Thelma and Louise the two cats who were surrendered by Robyn's mother-in-law and whom Bron has fostered for the past year or so. After we did their paperwork she said "and I can take another needy cat, or two. I run a retirement house for difficult cats". Tim suggested Max and mentioned his personality traits. "Fine" says Bron! Max was popped into a carrier, covered with a towel and we did his paperwork too. She adopted him. 

He will love living in her backyard in a spacious shed with lots of windows and a screened porch. The kids will play in the yard and pool. There are lots of ibis and other birds to watch as they live on the water. They have a new German Shepherd to play with their older German Shepherd. And I will be able to see him when I walk past on my morning walk! 

I wonder how long it will be before he is living in the house with them, just supervising. . . .  everything.

A young couple came to look for a friendly kitten as first time cat owners. Don't know why they didn't fall for Pixie who relaxed in their arms. She is the only available single at Safe (apart from  Lyra and I don't like the look of the spot by her right eye). I suspect that they had looked at the web page and spotted Marguerite who is grey. So I gave them Irene's addy and they will visit foster homes.

I could have suggested Jagger but he was hiding out in Rosie's carry cage. As soon as his condo door was opened to let him wander this afternoon, he shot next door to Rosie and Callie's condo and went straight into the carrier. I think he misses Ronnie. I think Callie misses being number one kitten in Rosie's life.

At about ten to four, as I was starting the evening feeds out back, I could hear cooing coming from the main cat room. A young, female in biking gear complete with a helmet was cooing at the cats. No other people around. She was talking simultaneously with her mum by phone (in Cantonese). They are about to move somewhere where they can have a cat. They want a really friendly cat. Just one. Most of our cats are paired at the moment (except Pixie. But I decided that Terry needs Pixie to keep his adoption numbers up for tomorrow). Besides she didn't notice Pixie. I introduced her to the friendly kittens from the fabulous fosterer who have yet to be desexed and she will return when they are ready. If I hadn't hustled her out the door she would still be there, cooing at cats.
