Adoption Tails: Squiggle and Quentin

Squiggle and Quentin, adopted May 21, 2022

Dad needed 8 arms from the get-go.
[Squiggle was one of the three kittens that Wanda took on before she had her litter of kittens. Quentin is the sole survivor of her litter.]

Squiggle and Quentin/Cornelius
1 day: They have settled in. They have some safe areas that they like. Squiggle is a bit shyer but coming out to play. They have both eaten and both used the litter tray. The owner thinks Squiggle will keep her name. Cornelius appears to be the boy's name from what he can tell.1 week: They are great. Always playing with each other. Eating well and using the litter. They have been in the owner's kid's room and his office a lot. They are coming for cuddles too. Happy cats.1 month: They are great. Settled in and have taken ownership of the  house, the kids and him. They will go for their first vet check-up  this week and go from there. Cornelius tried to kill himself last night by eating a bit of Lego but the vet nurse in the owner kicked in and gave Cornelius the Heimlich manoeuvre. They don't know there is a sky and seem content. His girls love the cats and it appears mutual.

Persians in Paradise

Yesterday after blogging I checked the Safe calendar to see if anything happened. And, lo and behold, Luigi and Bambi were adopted. A very nice family came. They were looking good. Their medical conditions were explained. The nice family can afford their care although they haven't ever owned Persians perhaps they don't quite realise the degree of daily care involved. But, Luigi and Bambi are used to devoted servants and will reward all attention with loving purrs.

Then, somebody else came and chose Nipper. He will be so happy to be out and about.

Talking of which, Tim has arrived a couple of mornings to find Diego sharing Nada's condo. There is a connecting flap that he has figured out how to navigate. They sit, on different levels, quietly waiting for their breakfast. (Goodness knows what they get up to overnight!)

To celebrate Tim's week off next week, it has been decided to make lots of cats and kittens available this weekend. I spent some time trying to get photos of the availables. Sootie did not cooperate. Many of the kittens were so squiggly they had to be held.

More Gingers

Since last Wednesday, Gracie, Dumpling and Matteo have been adopted from Safe Haven and Suga and Hazelnut from foster. To counterbalance that outflow, we have new cats, currently parked in Boarding but soon to be elsewhere. Like Puma who is a young (6-12 month old) ginger whose fur reminds me of a Burmese's fur. But his face is all ginger DSH:

Puma

He is a loving armful and had a fine time in the play place.

Next door is Monika who most folk would call a boy because most gingers are boys.

But poor Zoe (not the old one but a new one) in Incoming went to the vet to be checked and came back a Zack and without any teeth. He is on soft food only at the moment. The old Zoe has gone to foster along with Archie and Beckie. I had a frantic phone call at 8:30am from her fosterer to say, on a very bad line, that she had found a paw in her carrier. I called back and learned that it was a claw not a paw so explained that cats shed their claw sheaths regularly. Peach also went to the vet and came back without any teeth. She has retired to her bed box.

Back to the new kids in Boarding. There is Yoko and Linda. Don't know who named them. Or who is who.

And there are two new mums with kittens that Joy didn't get a photo of. Next time.

In the meantime, Cheena and Bubbles are settling down with us.

And Wanda's kids are ready to move to the Cat Room and get adopted. . . . but only if those blinky eyes are not flu. . . . ..

(Can we please change Squiggle's name to Squire. Imagine how undignified the cat will be as an adult being called Squiggle!)

Baby names

Sorry about no blog last night. The modem decided to go wrong, even though all the lights were shining. I left it to think about it overnight. This morning there were no lights so I turned it off, waited a bit and then back on again. It seems to have worked.

We had a quiet day yesterday. The only visitors were fosterers who came to pick up more baby cat food.

We were thrilled by the "Please clean" sign on Tammy's condo. We assumed that Tim has taken her with him on holiday. I wanted to leave it there to surprise and delight the rest of this week's vollies. But Irene assures me that we need every available condo for the raft of kittens that she has parked on foster carers. So I gave it a deep clean, with bleach, gumption, muscle power. . . . the full Monty.

There is only one boarder whose owner is very devoted and wants daily reports on how she is settling in. There are 70 other cats in residence, and one rabbit. Only 9 of the cats are on the Safe webpage ready for adoption.

Valentine is a new cat in Iso, aged 15. Her owner has moved to the old people's home. The kids were coming by occasionally to feed her. She is desperate for the kind of companionship that she is used to.

Trixie overnighted in the play place. She had a marvellous time and needed a good long sleep today to recover. I tried the Ragdolls there (separately). Augustus grumbled and grouched until he found the dog scratchy pole (brand name Buono Fido!) to curl up in to go to sleep. He wouldn't come out when it was time to go back to his condo. So I had to carry him in the scratchy pole to the condo. When there, he promptly got out of it, of course.

Augustus

Darcee settled in well after Augustus (and fogging). He curled up and napped until I joined him for lunch. Then he sat beside me. He didn't want my salad. He just wanted pats. He is a nudger: stop patting him and he will prompt you to continue by nudging your hand. Cute!

There is a new cat below Augustus named Lee-Lee (as opposed to Lele). She is young and very sweet. Don't know her story.

The newborn kittens have names. Three of them came from Jayde's when Wanda was with them and knew that they were not her kittens. They are Pickles: the calico, Racoon: the tabby with swirls and Squiggle: the tabby with parallel lines. Sandy and I decided that Wanda's own kitten, the ginger should be a Q name and chose Quentin if a boy, and Queeny if a girl. I changed the birthing towel for a clean one.
