Installment complete

 Of the new enclosures. We managed to get rid of the pile of bubble wrap and strapping tape in todays garbage. But there is a pile of cardboard to be got rid of. (Most of it is behind the couch in the entry). 

Plus, the air conditioning men came and fixed the leak in the airconditioner in the nursery. By the way, the box didn't do the trick on Pickles. I remembered a newspaper today so perhaps that will precipitate the birth. Katie reckons they should be born within the next five days.

Angus and brother have moved from the play place to a new enclosure which they enjoy. They have been replaced by Patch and Lily who came from the local pound. Patch is friendly, if confused. But Lily prefers to hide. They came from the same household but don't particularly like each other.

Blossom and her remaining two have moved from the Palace to a new enclosure. One of the kittens is very thin. He was always attached to a nipple but perhaps Blossom has run out of milk. He polished off a bowl of baby food in short order.

I let Aslan out for a walk. Prue and Trude noticed him. And Sydney came out to watch as well.

Then Trude noticed Sydney and stuck her paw into Sydney's enclosure.

We have two boarders including Suzie aka Topaz who is dearly beloved by her owner.

Hugo has taken his bloke smell away and Ted has been adopted as well.

Mia is the only cat left on Better Row since Hugo has moved to the Main room (despite still being somewhat stinky). So let's change the name, again. Christmas week only has one single and one double condo available for boarders.

Blossom only has 2 kittens left in the Palace. The black and white ones were adopted over the weekend. One of the little ones has a DIRTY nose. Don't know how that happened.

I enticed Max out for a walk with a brush. He loves to be brushed. He put himself back pretty quickly. He doesn't love meeting other cats.

He was interested in the boxes that contain our new wire cages that need to be assembled.

The three kittens who were by the front door are in the play place because they couldn't be put back into their stand alone yesterday. The stand alone is blocked in by those boxes now so they will probably stay in the play place. And Sunset got adopted this afternoon so it is just the two boys, Angus and Logan.

 Pickles still hasn't had her kittens in the Nursery. I will bring a newspaper in on Friday to see if the old trick of shredding a newspaper brings on kittens. (It is probably an old wives' tale similar to the one about putting butter on a new cat's paws to stop it going back to its old home. But Pickles has been pregnant for such a long time that we need to try any old trick.)

 This morning a nice lady came in and adopted Helena, Kate and Jagger!

Later this afternoon a lovely young woman from DY came to adopt Bear from foster. He will be a happy cat.

 Timmi and Hugo went to be desexed today. I am not usually at Safe when the fixed ones come back. Timmi was off her face with the happy drugs that they gave her. She is on Better Row and easily levited to the high shelf, and shedded an Elizabethan collar on the way. After dinner she will sleep like a log.

Hugo is to be moved to the main room (to Kate and Helena's) but his condo wasn't quite ready so he went back into Better Row. Good thing until his pong evaporates. I took home his dirty bedding and had to drive with all my windows open.

 There are only 2 cats left on Better Row: Ella and Hugo. Katie wanted to move Hugo to Jagger's condo. No, Jagger hasn't been adopted. He is in the stand alone by the filing cabinet and Maggie's 4 are in the play place. He is not too happy about it. But Maggie's lot are.

I moved Hana. It wasn't hard. And when she was moved she took up her usual position on the top shelf in her hairy bed watching. (Thank you to the vollie who dehaired the bed. It is probably just as hairy by now).

The entire bottom row is occupied by pairs of cats. Charlie and Champ are a loving pair.

Blossom's black and white boys are heavy enough to be desexed. Her tabby girls are still tiny.

And Timi is doing well. She and her sister's eyes didn't develop well due to their mum having herpes while they were in utero. Her sister had two very swollen eye balls and didn't survive the operation/anesthetic. Timi has one good eye and really enjoyed her first taste of chicken this afternoon. She proceeded to tip her water bowl into her litter tray and got wet in the process!

 Today we moved Julie and Bassuria to the Welfare section. That was because Sidney was moved to Holly's stand alone next to Sydney. Because Holly was adopted over the weekend as were Sidney's two condo mates (Audrey and Sylvie, together).

Bassuria was no problem to move. He walked into the carrier as soon as we put some of Sue's chicken in there. It took some time for Gulia (vollie) to entice Julie (cat) into the carrier which she usually scurries into as soon as you look at her. But the deed was done and they are now below Joni.

So that only leaves Ella, Hugo, Mia and Hana on Better Row. I might have to change the name to Short Row.

Hugo who won't last long

The woman who adopted one of Maggies kittens brought him/her back because she couldn't deal with the mess a kitten makes. So Maggie's lot is back in the play place overnight or they go nuts in the stand alone. After breakfast this morning they got a big spurt of energy and raced around the play place like demons. The R girls in the Palace were parallel playing with them, bouncing from one side of their condo to the other. The R girls gave up first.

Another cat, Puma was returned over the weekend because the family situation has changed. The vollie who was there when he was returned immediately adopted him. She loved him when we had him over a year ago. But her mum wasn't keen on having a cat. On Saturday morning, she had finally given in and said she could have a cat. And up turned Puma, the love of our vollie's life. She came in this afternoon to smooch with him. He was perfectly happy to get all the love.

 Now we know who is who of Thelma and Louise who have been on Better Row for months. They are ready to be adopted and have been moved to Leon's condo. Thelma (the friendly tortie) was no trouble to move. Louise escaped to under the food shelves. She came out from under for chicken. Gradually I enticed her back into her condo and put the carrier in there just in case she fell for that old trick. No way. When Tim tried to grab her she escaped to under the food shelves again.

We let her settle down and did something else. 

Eventually she was in a place where Tim could grab her with the big blue gloves. She managed to bite through the gloves to his finger.

Then she escaped into the main room behind Sparky's stand alone. We encouraged her to move towards her new condo. Eventually while she was looking at me in front of her, Tim grabbed her from behind and hoisted her up into her condo. She fell into Thelma's arms. 

It may take her a while to trust us again. Chicken will help.

 Astra and Zaria who were in Davo's condo are now in the stand alone by the filing cabinet with Roman.

Lola has another new position. This one has a bankie. She looks like she is winking at me but I think she has a sore eye.

I learned Hugo's history. He was a street cat who had trouble breathing. A pair of kind souls took him to a vet who discovered that he had a diaphragmatic hernia. . . . ie a hole in his diaphragm which let his guts move into his chest. The vet operated. The incision was from pubic bone to breast bone. His innards were put back where they were supposed to be and he was sewn up. The two kind souls paid the astounding vet bill but didn't have anyway to keep him. So we took him. 

He LOVES chicken.

 She is a very nice lady. She was going to check with the husband and do the paperwork tomorrow but decided not to risk it and did the paperwork today and will pick him up tomorrow. They will be very happy together.

And Klaus was picked up, early, by his family. He will be happy to be home again even though he had a good long play in the play place today.

Lola has given up Opie's room. She stationed herself in different places in the main room before settling down on the drying table out back. I had to entice her back to her condo with a soft food tube.

Don't know why Hugo has stitches in his tummy. Shouldn't he be wearing an Elizabethan collar? He is above Thelma and Louise who should be available soon.

Also soon to be on the for adoption list should be Holly and Arlo & Annie. I spent some time trying to get decent photos of them without the bars. I am sure that Joy's photos are better.

No surprise that Roger was adopted by a vollie before hitting the adoption list. I gather he has gone home to live with his sister who looks just as cute.

And Jagger was left in charge of the Top Cat. I wonder if he will still be in it by morning.

Finishing off Wednesday's jobs

 The balcony was full of bags and the rubbish bins were empty when I had time to look after 4pm. Those are jobs I would normally do on Wednesday. They got done today.

Dr Chris, the vet and his nurse came to do vet checks on the cats who are too difficult to move to his surgery. That includes Mia who screamed blue murder when Tim approached her with the big blue gloves on. Dr Chris bravely climbed up to her condo and did the deed. She was not pleased. She wouldn't get down to eat chicken, even.

Hana allowed herself to be carried (securely wrapped in a large towell) to the examination table. She refused chicken later too.

Maybe this means that they will soon be up from adoption.

New additions on Better Row are Hugo and Mimi. Mimi is waiting until tomorrow to be picked up for fostering.

Kittah has moved from Incoming to Welfare because Chonk the cat with the amputated tail who smelled so strongly of boy cat when he arrived but smells sweetly now was adopted today.
