Hanna Holyday

She was adopted today! The man who adopted her previously adopted Myrtle who unfortunately was bitten by a tick and died. Hannah will be kept indoors if she does not like being anointed with Bravecto. Sharon didn't realize that until she went to spend time with Hanna after doing two people's work in the morning shift. Gone!

We convinced Sharon that Billy need her "Hanna love".

Billy considers chicken
One of our vollies, Harper is moving to Perth to study so spent the afternoon with us to say goodbye. Rocky said that she could stay and cuddle him all the time.

Rocky loves Harper

I made new hammocks for the enclosures. Prue and Trude rejected theirs. No way were they going to lie on anything that smelt so NEW. But Elsa's kittens snuggled onto their new one. They are only 3 now, instead of 4. And Elsa's last two were desexed today.

Elsa's three big ones
Ark was in this afternoon. He reports that Opie and Pearl are doing very well. He was super useful in cleaning Cindy's kittens who might have got some aftereffect of her explosive poos on Wednesday. He had to time his cleaning duties between Cindy's feeding kittens times. He did very well.

Angus had an adventure after being let out that ended with Ark rescuing him from the top of the new enclosures.  Later he and Harper helped fill the Cousin's bins. Clean slate for poo bags tomorrow!

I got to cuddle with Jack (Luna is easy). He has a lump on his tail that feels as though it is bony. . . maybe a kink. And Elsa's black girl has a lump on her tummy (?post operative).

A lovely Liz arrived to spend time with Roxy and Trixie. She is very keen on them but needs to rehang the door to what will be to their safe room.

A three generation girl group came (at 10 to 4) to check out our kittens. As they previously decided that they want a "white" kitten (ie before seeing any real kittens in the flesh, aka Elsa's 3) I suggested that they wait a while until Cindy's kittens are ready. I wasn't specific about how long that would take. And if Cindy et al goes to a foster home they are locals and can visit frequently.

Terry does Wednesday magic

A couple came in today to adopt Spot. They spent hours on the weekend deciding on her. And more hours this afternoon after doing her paperwork, revisiting all their new friends.

Spot's new people

Logan was adopted over the weekend and Angus looks lonely in the great big enclosure all by himself.

Angus alone

Perhaps he should swap with Mia who loves to play catch the dangly toy on a stick, with her door wide open, as demonstrated by Ainsley this morning. I was so impressed that I gave Mia a proper bed, rather than the small, folded towel that she had. She was pleased. We took down her modesty sheet and she seemed fine with that as well.

Mia
Sundae has been moved to where Tosca was. Tosca must have been adopted yesterday. Her coat looks as though she needs to go to the beauty parlor for a good shampoo and blow dry. She doesn't mind being brushed but it doesn't seem to do much good.
Sundae
Jane's condo was opened when things quietened down for her to go for a wander. Somebody opened Kenzie's door as well. Within a few minutes they were both in Jane's condo and perfectly happy to stay together. How to get Kenzie back to her's? I waited and she didn't do it by herself. Eventually, Jane jumped up into Kenzie's condo and Kenzie moved into Jane's bed box. It was as though they had discussed it and came to a decision. I swapped the litter trays, the bedding, the water bowl, the food bowls and the name tags!

Kenzie downstairs

Somebody had attached the balls that run dye when wet into the condos. I took them out and threw them away. But I did save the clips that might come in handy. Mariko was apologetic that her Christmas toys are not safe for our cats. She came with more toys and gifts for us as well as three bags of Mother and Baby Cat crunchies that we had run out of. Mariko is a treasure.

I clipped them together and hid them in small balls drawer

Forgetful Prue

No photos again. I left my camera at home and my phone is still at the shop getting fixed.

Mariko had the day off from her jobs (one is a Haig's chocolates and she left some of their goodies). She reports that Rebel and Melody are getting on OK together. She can stroke Rebel with a stick. And she only has 3 mice left. Perhaps the mice died of fright because of the cat smell! Luckily the mouse breeder that she took the surplus from has given up breeding mice.

She brought, of course, a big bag of Christmas toys for the cats. They are in the form of three coloured, rope covered balls possibly with catnip inside which hang from a nifty hook. We put one on the handle if the box the Tosca hides in. The red ball managed to fall into her water bowl. And the water was stained bright red!

I think she needs to get a refund from whoever sold her those cat toys.

A pair of Chinese ladies came to get their first cat (since the younger was 5 years old). They liked Molly whom they had seen on the website. And Dexter, and Yuki, and Angus and. . . . .  They have some preparation still to do at home before adopting one.

Since the beginning of the month, Margurete, Kittah and Hunter have been adopted.

I schlepped two bags of washing, 1 bag of recyclables, a disgusting cat carrier and litter tray down to the loading zone and left them there. Rosanna has done the same thing. So I am not the only vacated minded vollie at the end of a long day. Luckily Sue was still then when I got home and can rescue the things I left behind.  I will get them on Friday.

Recent photo of Cody will have to do.

Furnishing the new enclosures

Two cats need two hammocks. So I added one to Logan and Angus's condo.

Slow adopters
And to Trude and Prue's enclosure.
Trude and Prue understand "one each"
Blossom and her kittens didn't have one. So far, they don't know what to do with it.

Cherry and Peanut prefer the bench (Mum Blossom on floor)
And I wasn't quite brave enough to put one in Mia's enclosure. She'd had enough of this changing houses malarky.
Mia

I also moved all the litter trays to the front of the enclosures because when the cats dig, with enthusiasm, the litter goes everywhere including out of the enclosures. If the litter tray is at the back, that means there is litter behind them which is difficult to clean up.

Pickles had her babies (5, I think) over the weekend. I installed a hammock for her to give her a roof to her box bed. She must have had the babies in her previous hammock because it is in the box.

Pickles plus newborns

We left Lola in charge when the storm drove us home.

She can visit with Thelma and Louise who will have a night in the Top Cat (sounds like a glamorous club)

Mia Row

Mia is the only cat left on Better Row since Hugo has moved to the Main room (despite still being somewhat stinky). So let's change the name, again. Christmas week only has one single and one double condo available for boarders.

Blossom only has 2 kittens left in the Palace. The black and white ones were adopted over the weekend. One of the little ones has a DIRTY nose. Don't know how that happened.

I enticed Max out for a walk with a brush. He loves to be brushed. He put himself back pretty quickly. He doesn't love meeting other cats.

Later Ted came out. He had to pass Lola, the office manager cat

Ted moving fast past Lola
To get to the front door. Look at that amazing tail!
He was interested in the boxes that contain our new wire cages that need to be assembled.

The three kittens who were by the front door are in the play place because they couldn't be put back into their stand alone yesterday. The stand alone is blocked in by those boxes now so they will probably stay in the play place. And Sunset got adopted this afternoon so it is just the two boys, Angus and Logan.

Logan and Angus
Pickles still hasn't had her kittens in the Nursery. I will bring a newspaper in on Friday to see if the old trick of shredding a newspaper brings on kittens. (It is probably an old wives' tale similar to the one about putting butter on a new cat's paws to stop it going back to its old home. But Pickles has been pregnant for such a long time that we need to try any old trick.)

The Young Ones

All Willow's kittens have now been adopted. As well as the last two (Harold and Hayley) of Harriet's. And Bowie  . . . . of course, as he was the littleist. Leonard and Larry (Lucia's kittens) are still in quarantine with the ringworm. They are full of energy. One was chasing his tail so energetically that he fell off the shelf.
Another photo missed was when one of Lily's kittens climbed onto her back for a piggyback.
Bosely is everybody's favourite. . . . he is the boss-cat.
Bosley

Poor Angus had to put up with hammering from next door or above today. It put him off his breakfast.

Angus

Adam and Eve were not getting on in a condo together. So they are in separate, but adjacent, wheely cages. Adam is much more interactive and engaging. Eve is more reserved.

Milky just looks good. He is a honey of a cat.

But Tara still doesn't want to know. . . . anybody.

Boss Cockie

It was my first time at being boss cocky today. And I arrived to an open condo. The igloo was neatly placed on the floor in front of the open door. So I checked the day book to see if those two shy, surrendered cats (Hera and ?) had been adopted last thing on Tuesday. Nothing in the book.
I checked behind the block of condos beside the ghastly art work. There were two sets of eyes peering up at me.
So I left them there to think about the situation they had got themselves into. With no breakfast until after Ros and Joy had cleaned all the condos and it quietened down. Then we got busy with the broom stick and blankets. I almost got the tuxedo as he tried to squeeze past me by pressing him against my back and the condos. He wiggled away from me by ripping my shirt (sorry Catsie) and shot off to the top of availables condo block.
We turned our attention to the cat still behind the ghastly condo block. Joy pushed the broom at her and decided that she was stuck. . . must be a fat cat. So I pushed against the condos and made a wider space so that I could get to her. She was just catatonic. I picked her up and took her to Candace's condo. Then I pushed the ghastly condo block back into place and further against the wall. Only a one inch wide cat will fit behind that block in the future.
Isn't it surprising how strong you can be when the adrenaline is coursing through your veins?

Back to the tuxedo. He settled down behind Katies glam carry cage but we frightened him over the top to ground level. Eventually he hid on the bottom shelf of the trolly in Boarding. I moved everything in front of him, Ros found a top loading carry cage, I picked him up and put him in the carry cage. . . . calmly. (The adrenalin was tailing off at this stage).

So he is downstairs and she is upstairs (or vice versa) and the trap door between them is open. They have food.

The rest of the day was calm. A mother and son came to choose a kitten on the firm understanding that they cannot reserve one and have to phone each Monday to find out who will be desexed the next day. They had a lovely cuddle. The kittens loved it. They have four cats already at home but the late teenaged son wants a kitten of his own. They have adopted Samson from AWL. . so are good folk.

Angus is all alone next door on Tuesday to Thursday. So I spent some time with him late in the day. I think he didn't quite know why.

Joy sent some photos as I was too busy cockying to take many.

Collar refinement

The only "real" work I did this afternoon was to sterilize Midnight and Sooty's condos. That is the Sooty who left a fortnight ago. Not the Sootie who is getting more confident in the condo below Midnight's. (Midnight is settling in well).

But I filled in my time by introducing a woman and her daughter, Jasmine to all the cats. Their dearly beloved Beckie, who was adopted 6 years ago from Ingleside, and who I think may be this one: . . .

Becky in 2014

had to be euthanised 4 months ago because she had a tumour blocking her nose and throat. They are not quite ready for another cat yet but might be happy to spend time (ie volunteer) with our cats. We spent most of our time with the "ready to go" cats who uniformly enjoyed being loved on, especially Buffy and Kit Kat.
We spend time looking at the kittens rather than loving on each one. I felt that that would have taken too long and Jasmine would have enjoyed it too much for her mother's comfort.

This morning I sewed three Elizabethan collars small enough for a small kitten.
Tim put one on Josie who keeps getting her front leg through the neck hole.

Here is Jenny with smallish collar which looks enormous on her:

Angus was taken home for the long weekend by our neighbours. So Nom is our only border. He is not eating his noms.

Midnight adopted

Sue's friend Vann did come to adopt Midnight. Lucky Midnight. She has already been taken to the vet and questions were asked (and answered).

And Angus is the 13Kg cat in boarding. Not a happy chappy. He is on pain meds probably because all his joints ache from the strain.
Angus

Grayson and Giselle will go to the vet tomorrow. Grace (the tuxedo) was only .99Kg today so will have to wait. There is a queue to adopt this lot. With one person wanting Grayson and Giselle, another wants Grace and Giselle and yet another wants Grayson by himself. First come, first serve unless we make it an auction and the kittens will go to the highest bidder.

Jaffa and one of her kittens was desexed yesterday. Poor girl. She doesn't look comfortable with those big titties and the kittens aren't the slightest bit interested in helping her out.

I am convinced that Tessa's nose is dirty. And cleaned it with a wash cloth. Can you tell which is the before and which the after photo?

Lucia's kittens are roly poly cuties. They are outside the carry cage and Lucia is inside it. In the meantime, Luca went for a stroll and was quite easy to catch to get back into his condo. Buffy also wandered about and was a snap to catch.

Willow's kittens are growing quickly except for the black one who had a separate breakfast. . . and ate, and ate, and ate.
