Door charm

Lola does like having all the junk moved off "her" table. In the mornings she sits there while waiting for her breakfast. I can't decide if she likes the sun on her back, the purring noise that the air makes as it is sucked through the door gap or the breeze that comes in.

Of course, it might just be a good vantage point for her to track my progress towards her food bowl.

Irene asked me to weight Roxy's kittens today. The ginger, named Roo has always been the runt of that family and she is just over 1 Kg. Too light to be desexed.

Roo, Ri. .  and Roxy
We decided that the champagne's names will be Riley and Rimi. . . or Ri until they get microchips and can be distinguished.  The two champagnes are almost heavy enough. They are both girls and are identical. We tried very hard to seen some difference but couldn't. So one in the photo suffices.

This afternoon I noticed that Chester's door was open. He wasn't in his box. We found him pretty quickly crouching under the cleaning trolley in Welfare. He ran straight back into his stand alone.

Chester
I am sure that Alex could have told me where he was, if s/he deigned to talk to a person. (We couldn't find the paperwork to find out whether Alex is a male or female). His/her cage mate  Olive was adopted on Saturday. She would have told us.
Alex

Also adopted on the weekend were Choc and Chip. And they are likely to be returned this week because Choc is too shy. BUT WE TOLD THEM! (Some people don't deserve our cats).

I am sure that the nice man who adopted Goldie this afternoon will be happy with her.

The Planet kittens have been moved out of Isolation. They are in the Palace until Teddy moves elsewhere.

Exercising kittens

When I arrived this morning, the door of the small stand alone by the merch shelves was open. And peeking out of the box inside the stand alone was a ginger and white face!

Chester

Chester was moved from Boarding because he really wasn't getting on with the two wilder kittens that he came in with. Freckles and Posie, in Boarding, seem calmer without him.
Freckles and Posie
(Aren't I lucky that Joy was in to take photos today!)

Blossom and Renny seem happier on Better Row than in Incoming. More space and fewer baby neighbours.

Blossom and Renny
Like Mouse's three who used to be below them. Today was the first time all three were out in the window'd area.
Mouse and her three

They were there before we moved Roxy's into the Incoming stand alone to get some exercise for their flat back feet which have been bound for weeks to try to develop their muscles correctly. Probably playing will do just as much good. I took a lovely video of them bouncing around but cannot upload it. Just imagine them moving:

Roxy's kittens' playground

One cat who wasn't moving was Dawson. He was happy with a lap.

Dawson and Alex
Here he was happy with Alex. Later he favoured Robin who visited briefly. Later yet he favoured a complete stranger!

PS We have another busted litter can so are down to one Willoughy bin.

Late

Sorry, I had a committee meeting that went on and on. Poor Aslan had to watch the blank TV all by himself.

We had great adoptions this weekend: Faith, Rain, Le Clerk and Griffin (for the fourth time.)

And today a nice couple came in and adopted Carly who didn't even make it to the Safe website!

We were kept busy with the usual business plus having to bottle feed Savannah's adopted little one. All that handling was a good opportunity to decide what its sex is. She is a girl. So she was immediately named Sybie after Helen's aunt. By the end of the day she weighted 300gm.

Luckily Joy took some photos of some of our tabbies:

Scardey Pepper and Salt in Incoming

came in with Rose who is a delight. She will cuddle with anyone.

Valentina hasn't had any kittens yet but she is getting very round in the belly on pregnant rations.

On Better Row is Calli who is more relaxed these days.

Why did you wake me up! says Calli
And Bissie is a delight in the early morning when there is nobody else around. She doesn't greet newcomers.

Neither does Heffer. But she has a devoted admirer who comes every Friday to visit her.

Thanks for the photos Joy.

Adoption Tails: Elsa's brood

Nick

1 day: He's doing wonderfully. Eating, drinking and using his litter. Loves his cuddles.
1 week: He's doing great!
Nick
1 month
: He's great. Nick's had his flea and tick treatment but is being treated for ringworm at the moment. The owners love him!

Marti, aka Smokie

1 day: He is happy, started drinking/eating and using the tray already. The daughter renamed Martin to Smokie, based on his fur colour. He is still trying to get to know the family and the room he is staying in, having already started playing with the daughter too.
1 week: Smokie had a bit of a cat flu flare up with watery/teary eyes. He is quite healthy otherwise, eating well and running around all the time. He has a sneeze once in a while so the owners will keep an eye on him and take him to the vet should things worsen. Smokie is a bit lazy during the day but very active and playful in the mornings and evenings.
Marti/Smokie
1 month
: Smokie is doing well, he is the little king here and treated with utmost respect. "He has brought joy to us."

Chester

1 day: He is doing well! He previously stayed in the laundry room but it was too noisy and was moved to the owners' bedroom. He used the kitty litter and have been eating little bits here and there but not having any water. He is very affectionate and seems to be fairly confident with the owners but just gets scared of noises. He is meowing/crying quite frequently and the owners are unsure if he is bored or scared. 1 week: He is very confident around the house now. He does meow fairly often but a lot less than when he first came home.
Chester

1 month: He is doing very well and seems to be happy and healthy. He loves the owner's laptop and window hammock!
Loz  aka Leo
1 day: Loz, now Leo, is doing great. He was extremely scared on the first day but has settled in quickly. He’s playing with the boys and adjusting to their resident cat. He’s eating lots and has used the litter a few times. “I think he’ll be a great new addition to the family.”

2 days: “The cats seem to be playing well. All in all great success.”

Leo at 2 days with new big friend
1 week: “He is gorgeous. He has made friends with Milo and settled into the family. He eats a lot though.. about 3x as much as Milo. Hopefully we can slow him down soon.”

1 month: “He is awesome”

Hallie aka Sissy

1 day: When they brought her home, she was playful at first but as the night progressed, she grew very shy and scared. She had some dinner and hid in one of the shelves in her safe room. She stayed there the whole night. She didn’t want breakfast at 7:30 but eventually ate around 11:30. She inappropriately pooed outside of her litter box but has successfully peed in it. Her owner was working in her safe room today and she had a nap while her owner was working. She had a lot of play time this evening and is finishing up her zoomies. She’s been renamed Sissy as “she’s now one of many sisters in our circle of family and friends”.

2 days: She’s had another awesome day in her safe room. Her appetite and toileting have been great. She knows where to go to the bathroom and doesn’t hide as much. She was asleep on the office chair when they found her this morning so it’s definitely better than sleeping on the shelf on the first night. She’s been itching to come out of her safe room every time they leave and cries when her owners aren’t there.

Sissy one week

1 week: Sissy’s doing awesome after a week of having her. She’s out of her safe room and settled into the rest of the home. She isn’t missing the toilet, is drinking water and cannot wait to eat her meals. She tends to sleep in the wardrobe and scratches to try and get in when it’s closed. “Her personality has grown so much and we love having her”1 month: “She’s doing great - she’s found her groove and is such a character to have around the house”. She loves attention, cuddles and doing zoomies. She went to the vet and it went really well - she’s had her second immunisation and a flea treatment. They’ve found that she’s hungrier than usual. She doesn’t meow for food but she sits next to her food bowl. The vet advised them to base her portions around her as she’s still growing so they’re trying to figure that out. Other than that, everything else is going smoothly. She’s a playful, funny and sweet kitten and they love her so much.

Blake aka Smokey
3 days: He is settling in extremely well. He’s eating, peeing, and pooping. He is very affectionate and loves their bed. He has been renamed Smokey and is very much at home. Smokey will be well-loved just like their autistic son’s cat Lily. She came from SAFE around 2 years ago and is a “match made in heaven” for their son.

1 week: Smokey is going well. He has been in the hallway outside his safe room and this afternoon, he progressed to the kitchen. Very much at home and has a routine already. He sleeps all night and is eating and drinking well. He is a beautiful little boy and is very affectionate. He just likes being with his owners and follows them around. He also loves watching tennis with his owner.

Smokey one week

1 month: Smokey is very well. He runs and owns the house. He now weighs 2.35kg and has been to the vet for his F3 injection. “He is such a beautiful affectionate little boy we love him to death. We are glad to give him a good home.”

Sydney rescued

She was taken away by Ainsley's sister (and her mum). To be fostered. They brought a cat carrier but we couldn't convince Sydney to move from her circular igloo. So I suggested that they take her in the igloo. We wrapped it up in the cuddle rug that usually sits on top of it. Tied knots on the top. Had the hole carried against A's sister's belly. And away they went. They don't have too far to go. We didn't hear back so assume that they all arrived home safely.

I swept up her enclosure but had to move it out so that I could get to the litter between the walls. While I did that several nuts popped off. I have put them, and other washers in the drawer with the bulldog clips. I think the enclosures need some kind of flooring to keep the litter inside each one.

Trude & Prue, blank, Mia
Elsa's first lot of kittens have been adopted so the next lot moved into their enclosure. I turned their hammock over.

Nick, Chester or Blake
They all fit on it.

Most of Gracie's kittens have been moved to stand alones in Welfare. The boys, George and Gino are together. And the girls, Gemma and Gwen are in another. They all seem calm if a little shy.

Winnie has come in from Foster. She is in Jane's condo below PC. She is shattered.
Winnie
But PC is looking very spruce. A lovely vollie Gumptioned his condo. She even wiped his face with the cloth she was using and got some dirt off!
PC
We got a new kitten in Incoming. Her name is Tinker Bell and her right hind leg doesn't work very well. But she seems happy and is very pretty.

Exchange Row

The Naughty Row needs a new name. This week I suggest Exchange Row, or The Exchange. It is where things change from bad to good for the cats who come in.

For example, remember Chester? He came from a vet with various other cats and was said to be desexed. He was in Incoming first and was withdrawn/shy. Then he moved out back and started to become much more friendly. Then he started to call out to other cats. Then Tim had a good view of his back end and realised that he is a she and that she was coming into heat! So Chester is now Chessy and will wail until she is really desexed.

Chessy
We had the minimum number of vollies today which was still good as Sandy arrived in the afternoon to help clean up out back. And one vollie brought her sister who stood and watched the cats until I found her jobs to do. . .. the boxes of plastic gloves are stored in the bookshelf behind Opey. There are only two packs of toilet rolls left there (hurrah!). Next I asked if she like putting things together. She did. So I got her to assemble the pingpong roller track that had been left on the drying table. The idea was that it go into the play place. But it was too big.

She made is half as extensive and Jasmine and her kids will learn to play with it. And we will get used to it looking like a reticulated python.

There were visitors. One came looking for a young cat (not a kitten) for her unit. She is expecting visitors in a fortnight to the room which should be the cat's safe room. We decided that she should delay her decision until those visitors leave. She rather liked Lucky! Fingers crossed.

Other visitors came with donations and got to visit with the cats by way of thanks: one lot adopted Tom and ? 2 years ago (and changed their names immediately) from us and are very happy with them. Another came with donations because their cat died of urinary failure. They will be back when they are ready. Another brought in a splendid crate and a bag full of ? mouse hidey holes (too small for cats) that can be suspended!

We have a kitten in Incoming who needs physio on her back legs. This entails gently pulling her back legs every afternoon. She is getting much better. Her name is Jolene.

Jolene, nothing wrong with her appetite
Phantom will have company perhaps.
Phantom's funny way of sitting
And finally, I don't know why Demi and Winnie are still with us. Such loving cats.

A scrappy afternoon

I forgot to take a bar of soap for the downstairs lady's loo. I will bring one on Friday. But I did meet a woman in the lift who was looking for the fabulous sale of silken garments that she had on her phone. The address was unit 16, 30-32 Barcoo. That is the Aus Silk place at the other end of our corridor. I told her to come get a cat if she had any money left. She didn't come.

Over the weekend Pluto was adopted and three kittens from foster homes, Cleo, JJ and Pippy.

We have a new mum (herself a kitten) and her four kittens (3 boys and 1 girl). They are in the play place. All very friendly.

Sue with new babies

I was too busy to take more photos because Barb Webster and her carer visited. Barb wanted to cuddle all the kittens. Tiger and Penwing were the most cuddly ones.

Barb enjoyed the wobbly cats Tabby and Phantom who performed for her.

Tiger smooched
I will add some old photos. And I added Lucy to the Adoption Tail of last week that featured her bother Eric.

Hero in Incoming is still shy

Mickey is still pissed off

Gia has moved to Pluto's stand alone. Her hammock is uneven. I didn't have time to fix it.

Chester has moved to Taylor's condo on Naughty Row. We will have to change the name soon.
Strangly enough, Barb's carer has a black cat call Mia who is a bit of a tyrant also.

More sad and glad

Earl and co have moved from Incoming to the Palace and Midnight and his mum have moved to the condo above Honey.

Pluto purrs on any lap and Penwing is back. He has gingivitis and is on meds so perhaps that is why he is back.
Penwing
One of our fosterers came in with more cats from the deceased estate that Opie came from. These are Lil Pete and Lil Sweetie. Neither is very little. Both are tuxedos. Lil Sweetie talked all the way in in the car but didn't say anything once she was out of that horrible carry cage. Coco and Chester came from the same house that had 16 cats, a dog, some rabbits and goodness knows what else.

Dora went back to fosterer Claire's and has settled in brilliantly. Her mum was adopted from there last week. And the other foster cat that Claire had, Amber, has moved to us.  Amber is 6-12 months (closer to 6, I'd say) and she had 7 kittens all of whom died. Way too young to get pregnant. She is where Sophia was.

Amber
Olga brought in another cat whom we have called Olga. She had her 3 kittens at the local primary school. This is the same school that kitten Mary came from, brought in by Olga. Only one of her kittens has survived.
