Too busy

Sue forgot that I told her that I would be late today as I had to take DH to the eye doc for another injection. She thought Tim would be on today but he
is not well. So when she arrived at 9am, nobody had been fed and the trash hadn't been taken out for collection. Then Mariko was hijacked by her bus driver and had to walk further than she expected, Robyn's car wouldn't start, other vollies decided they couldn't do today. Plus there were deliveries of large boxes of food, bags of litter and other mystery boxes.

Now, some heavenly person has cleaned out Opies room. It looks habitable. The table is clear, the floor is clear. Even Lola deigned to go in there to sit on a vacated shelf this afternoon! But there wasn't enough room for all the stuff that was delivered. So we left it in the corridor. [Sorry tomorrow].

On my heals, when I arrived at lunchtime, were visitors. The first lot was a young man who met us at a Dog and Cat show in town and bought a T-shirt. He later ripped the T shirt while skate boarding. Today he brought his (girl) friend to buy another T-shirt and meet all the cats. I introduced them all. And met Kenzi for the first time. He is in Rocky's condo because Rocky was adopted earlier in the week. They loved Dexter who was happily passed from arms to arms. He bought another T-shirt and a hoodie for his friend and left.

As another group arrived. This was Charlie's family. They are considering another cat for their 16 year old. So I showed them all again. Dexter was happy with cuddles.

Then a happy previous customer arrived with friends who wanted a kitten or two. We went around the possibles again. There were 3 of Grace's kittens in the play place. They finally settled on two of them. They were two of the boys. The last remaining, all grey kitten is a female. I did the adoption. . . slowly and inefficiently.

Then a previous visitor came to see who was available. But they really wanted to see Dexter who they rather fancied. He, by this stage, had had enough of being picked up and admired. He latched onto his potential owners arm with teeth and claws. We had to pry him off. Her skin is AMAZING. She hardly bled. If he had done that to  me I would have been shredded. They were amazing and continued with the tour and admired Kenji. Who wouldn't!

Kenji
Nobody got to have play time except Aslan for a while and Charlie and Champ. (Champ is getting more adventurous).

Poor Cindy didn't get fed nearly often enough. Why is one kitten not in the clump?

Bins away

The Willoughby garbage truck managed to smash one of our council bins today. There was sawdust and blue gloves all over the sidewalk. They will deliver another but it will probably take weeks. And I managed to loose the Cousins bin key. I must have chucked it in the cardboard bin with all the emptied food boxes that had littered Opies room before I flattened them. Luckily, we have spare keys.

Yumi was adopted today. An excited voice rang in the morning to check that she was really still with us and available. She was in her stand alone so I said "come get her". Her new owner is a lovely, patient woman who sat smiling while Sue struggled to get the computer to do what it was supposed to do and to then find a way around what it wouldn't do. I only had to get Yumi into the cloth carry bag. . . . not so easy. She was very suspicious and wasn't even tempted by Greenies. But she is such a nice cat, I was allowed to pick her up and shove her in.

Yumi
Joy took photos.

Pippa is in Welfare and is ready to go. She chirrups at everyone who walks by so won't last long when we get visitors.

Pippa
Jack and Luna really enjoy having time out of their condo to play. All they need is a vollie to wiggle a wand toy at them

Luna (left, I think) and Jack.

PC has moved into Kenzie's condo. He will happily entertain visitors there. No appointment required. Just come to adore him.

Ros loving on PC
But poor Chad is still stuck in Incoming. He needs some of this loving.
Chad
At one stage, I was the kitten holder for photos of Gracie's kittens. They don't like being held much and definitely don't like being pointed at by mobile phones or laptop computers. We had to microchip them to find the right ones to photograph via their microchip numbers. They all have G names and are mostly grey tabbies or grey and whites. The photos will appear on FB or similar.

Their downstairs neighbour, Cindy has had her kittens, 5 wiggly worms at this stage.

Surprise!

I forgot to take any photos. (But that is hardly a surprise.)

The surprise is that Jane and Kenzie have both been adopted.

Jane was adopted by a woman who came in ages ago and decided that Jane was the cat for her . . .  but she had to move house first. She finally came in, since last Friday, and was very relieved that Jane was still with us and took Jane home. When Sue rang her yesterday,  Jane was in the kitchen declining to be patted! (Should have been in a safe room).

Jane

I don't know the story about Kenzie but she has been a changed cat since she started to come out of her condo and since she spent time in Jane's condo.

Kenzie

A couple of people were late picking up their cats from boarding.

One family boarded their two because they had their floors sanded (to get the house ready to sell) and didn't want the cats to be traumatized by men in the house with noisy machines and smelly stuff. The men were not as expeditious as they had promised to be. The adults had to stay in a hotel for 2 nights and the kids were farmed out to sleep overs. The cats were safe with us. But very happy to see their people.

The next person was reminded by a phone call from Sue that her cat should have been picked up. "I forgot" she said. Not surprising when she told us the story of a recently dead mother, the cat is her father's, she has a 4 month old in hospital, has to find a new place to live. . . . Poor Nero will get cuddled to death tonight when he gets home.

Terry does Wednesday magic

A couple came in today to adopt Spot. They spent hours on the weekend deciding on her. And more hours this afternoon after doing her paperwork, revisiting all their new friends.

Spot's new people

Logan was adopted over the weekend and Angus looks lonely in the great big enclosure all by himself.

Angus alone

Perhaps he should swap with Mia who loves to play catch the dangly toy on a stick, with her door wide open, as demonstrated by Ainsley this morning. I was so impressed that I gave Mia a proper bed, rather than the small, folded towel that she had. She was pleased. We took down her modesty sheet and she seemed fine with that as well.

Mia
Sundae has been moved to where Tosca was. Tosca must have been adopted yesterday. Her coat looks as though she needs to go to the beauty parlor for a good shampoo and blow dry. She doesn't mind being brushed but it doesn't seem to do much good.
Sundae
Jane's condo was opened when things quietened down for her to go for a wander. Somebody opened Kenzie's door as well. Within a few minutes they were both in Jane's condo and perfectly happy to stay together. How to get Kenzie back to her's? I waited and she didn't do it by herself. Eventually, Jane jumped up into Kenzie's condo and Kenzie moved into Jane's bed box. It was as though they had discussed it and came to a decision. I swapped the litter trays, the bedding, the water bowl, the food bowls and the name tags!

Kenzie downstairs

Somebody had attached the balls that run dye when wet into the condos. I took them out and threw them away. But I did save the clips that might come in handy. Mariko was apologetic that her Christmas toys are not safe for our cats. She came with more toys and gifts for us as well as three bags of Mother and Baby Cat crunchies that we had run out of. Mariko is a treasure.

I clipped them together and hid them in small balls drawer

A film set

This morning half a dozen Chinese young women arrived with cameras, tripods and other equipment. They are learning how to make documentaries, I gather. One was the director. There were a pair of cameras that the others operated. The cats and us were the actors. Tim got interviewed. Jade brought in a "cat" to board and I did the paperwork. We even did a mock adoption of Arlo and Annie. Let's hope that it was a warm up for the real thing tomorrow!

Of course with all that excitement and the distribution of chicken, I didn't even think of taking any photos so will use Joy's from Wednesday.

Kittah and Tosca were surrendered from the same family. They are not in a condo together because they didn't really like each other at home even though their eyebrows look sisterly. They both had dental work yesterday and are on soft food for a while. They got chicken juice.

Kittah
Tosca

Kenzie who used to be on soft food after dental work is back on crunchies. I think she prefers the soft stuff.
Zenzie

I put up the Top Cat for Maggie. I think it was her first opportunity and she had a lovely time. She even relaxed in the hammock. Billy is having the overnight go.

Jagger is in the play place. He hid in a box most of the day. When it came to chicken time I wheeled in his stand alone. But he was too canny to jump in while I was close by. So he is still there.

It doesn't matter because the space where his stand alone was, by the filing cabinet, has another empty stand alone there. It was moved from Isolation because new condos have arrived (thank you, Geoff) from Mona Vale vets who don't use them any more. They will be set up in Isolation and the Royal Cannin monster will be dismantled and discarded. Hurrah! It was originally built as a temporary display place for cats at shows. It is very hard to clean properly. And we will get more wire enclosures to take the place of the small AWL condos which will move into Incoming.

Max is thrilled at the prospect:

Max says "Oh, really"

Some fun, some not so much

 Tosca loves her box.

Tosca

Mabel loves to stay in her carrier while Tori makes love to any available hand that will tickle her tummy.

Tori

Chia came out this afternoon. She watched the other cats wandering around for ages and eventually plucked up courage to explore.
Chia playing peek-a-boo with Sydney
Kenzie's mouth must be feeling better since she had some teeth removed. Or, she likes being fed soft food only.
Kenzie
I dropped off one of Elsa's kittens at the local vet's on my way home. He has a mass of poo stuck to his bum that we couldn't soak off while he wiggled and screamed. Elsa hasn't felt well enough to clean up her baby's bums for a while. And somebody in the stand alone threw up a hair ball laced with a worm! A job for professionals!

Lola has a new role

Lola has taken over being office cat from Ginger George and Tiger. This afternoon she sat on a visitor's chair for an hour. She then moved to sit on the desk.

Adele
Luckily that was after I did the paperwork for Adele who has been adopted by a lovely, older lady whose cat died some time ago and who is now ready for another. Adele went into her carrier (a top loader) with no trouble at all. And didn't make a sound as I carried her down to the car. They will be happy together.

Devo and Queenie have been adopted but are still with us. They are boarding until Sunday while their new people get themselves sorted. The boarding area is already booked out so they get to stay in their own condo.

Sparkle has moved into Junior and Lucy's stand alone. And his name has been changed to Sparky.

Sparky
I gave Virgo more light in her corner condo. She seems to always been peering out without the hissing.
Virgo

Kenzie looks as though she needs a good brush. There is a tiny brush on a long stick in her condo. I tried stroking her with it, gently. She, just as gently, pushed it away. Tiny steps. .  . . .

I thought it smelled funny

Last week when I moved Gingi/y into Incoming from Boarding I noticed that not only was his bedding very wet, it smelled funny. I told Tim that he should take it to Dr Chris because the smell might be diagnostic. I don't know if Tim took the wet bedding (I wouldn't want that smell in my car!) or if Gingi/y provided another sample at the vets. But it seems that he has diabetes which is why he pees voluminously and why he has lost half his body weight ( 7 to 3.5 Kg). Now he is off the steroids and will have to go back to VetO to get his insulin dosage figured out.

Gingi/y
Every time I try to take a photo of Kenzie who is sitting quietly watching what is going on, she ducks back into her sleeping box. She has quite a lot of ginger below her chin which is very pretty.

We left Max in the Top Cat. He was so pleased to get a pot of grass this afternoon that he let me pat him. I thought he needed to be rewarded.
Max
The photographer came today. She is allergic to cats so has to take an antihistamine pill before she arrives and still sneezes. Such devotion! She was told to take photos of Jordan and Aslan. I got to help her by letting her keep her distance. (Joy took these photos).

Aslan
The Instagram shot of me brushing Ginger George is up to 8800+ views! He is such a charmer.

Pink carpet

The blue Cousins bin (of cardboard/paper waste) was emptied today. But the red bin wasn't. Never mind. I promptly refilled the blue bin with the boxes that were delivered with merchandise for us to sell. Included were 5 large boxes with 4 large cat carriers in each. It took some time to put the first one together. But the second one was much quicker. It is a superior cat carrier and comes with a spare screw and a water/food bowl that attaches to the door. And the price was right.

And the blue bin is full again.

Two visitors this afternoon. One was doing the paperwork for Martini who is in a foster home. I assumed that Martini was a boy name (perhaps influenced by memories of Dean Martin). But this Martini is a girl. The new printer had a conniption fit and needed Katie and Tim's attention to get it to print out the relevant forms.

The other visitor spent lots of time looking for two boy cats, preferably with long hair to adopt. All his family have long haired cats. Kenzie and Hanna would have been perfect. . . . if they were boys (and available).

Hanna enjoyed her grass this afternoon
He fell in love with short haired Jordan. . . what is not to love.

And with Aster who is a girl and short haired.

And with Virgo's brood of boys who will be available later this weekend.

Eventually he decided to come back later this weekend when he has consulted his partner (who has 3 cats and a labradoodle) and his daughter who lives with him.

In the meantime, Maxwell had a bath yesterday. The water was brown. But he still looks grubby.

And Davo is wrapping the staff around his shaved paws.

Davo

And finally I couldn't resist taking a photo of the house a few doors up the street with the newly landscaped front yard. Camellias have been spectacular this year.
