Rosie and Callie are back

We were expecting them but they were late so we hoped that their adopters might have had second thoughts. Callie was pleased to see me and let me pat her head. That is progress. We also have new cats in Incoming. But the good news is that Ginger George has been adopted. The strong minded friend must have fallen in love with him too.

Biscuit wasn't supposed to come in but s/he got trapped and the other escaped. S/he is a very sweet cat. But grubby. There may be problems with teeth that make the tongue hang out.

Biscuit

Prada, across the way has settled in nicely and is friendly as well as beautiful.

Prada

There are four scaredy kittens in the stand alone against the other wall: Venice, Scooch, Muffin and Cookie. Seems to me that several folk named the kittens in this litter.

Venice, Scooch, Muffin, Cookie

And Alfredo below where Rebel was has a good appetite.

Alfredo

Gulia took Honey home over the weekend. They were both very excited. A woman came this afternoon to choose a cat to foster. It took all afternoon and she eventually chose Lola. But Lola didn't want to go. She absolutely refused to let Tim microchip her. So the fosterer took Nancy who didn't like the microchipping and hated having to get into the carrier where that foul dead had been done. But she was taken off. And we hope she will live happily ever after.

Sydney is looking quite content in the afternoon these days. So miracles do happen.

More Adoption Tails: Dexter, JJ, Yasmin and Aster

  Aster

Aster, 1 day
1 day: Aster is doing really well and the owner will be keeping her name. She is a little nervous to see the resident cat (who is huge) but is much more relaxed. She has had some food and water but not too much.

Aster and friend, 1 week
1 week: Aster and the resident cat are really good friends now. They groom each other and sleep together as if they've known each other their whole lives!
1 month

Aster and best buddy, 1 month

Yasmin

1 day: Yasmin is an absolute blessing! She has been playing, eating and using her litter box. She has explored her area so confidently and comfortably. The owner is so happy that Yasmin has been super cuddly and purring lots!

Yasmin

JJ/Alfi

1 day: The owners have changed JJ's name to Alfi. He's been really good, spent the first couple of hours in his carrier and once he was more comfortable, he came out of his room and had a few short explorations of the space. He did 2 wees in the shower but has been using the litter with no trouble once the owner used a different litter. He has not been eating or drinking much but definitely improving.

JJ/Alfie
1 week: Alfi is doing really good. He ended up going to the vet on Monday to get his eye checked out. He loves going under furniture, becoming a bit of a dust buster and the owner worries that this might have been the cause of his conjunctivitis. Other than that, Alfi is settling in so well!

JJ/Alfie

1 month: He is so good. His eye is 100% better. He went through some roundworm issues too. He's always been his cuddly and adventurous self. "He's getting so big and beautiful"

JJ/Alfie 1 month

Dexter

1 day: Dexter is renamed Oliver. He has been absolutely amazing and has already settled in! He wanted to explore the apartment right away and even slept with the owner on her bed last night. He has been eating, drinking and used the litter tray and his scratching post. The owner thinks he is very happy to be in his own home!

Dexter, day 1

1 week: Dexter is doing great, he's settled in very happily. During the first few days, he was a little cranky but now the owner can tell he is much much happier and relaxed. His personality is coming out too which is great!1 month: Oliver is doing very well. He's in boarding at SAFE so his owner is sure he's happy. They're continuing to see progress with him. He's fully comfortable in his place now. He still gets grumpy every now and then but the aggression problems have definitely improved. He loves being picked up and cuddled when his owner comes home.

Lumi day 1

He is loved very much by everyone. The owners still have not managed to get their bed back from Lumi yet.

Adoption Tails: Feli(cies)

1 day: Feli is doing okay in his room, he's still quite shy but has eaten and likes to have his head rubbed. He has yet to use the litter but hopefully will soon. The owners will probably keep his name as it and hope he lives up to it!

Feli, day 1
1 week: He's settled in nicely. He's going to the toilet every day now too. They're trying to get their resident cat more used to him as he has been growling and hissing.1 month: He's doing well. Their resident cat is still growling a bit, but they can now get comfortably close to each other without anything happening.

[Feli was adopted on Boxing Day. He has turned out to be a Feliz Navidad cat.]

Dumped

Firstly, news of Cleo. She seems to be doing well.

Secondly, we have our New Year lucky black cat, Johnny. Don't know if Johnny is a boy or a girl. S/he was delivered yesterday by some people who said that they didn't want her and then left! S/he, of course, is shattered. I just hope that this is not the start of a trend. Or we will have to frisk folk at the door for hidden cats to smuggle in.

Johnny
Joni is getting used to her new digs. She came out of her cat carrier when there was a visitor this afternoon and almost smiled.

Joni and Taylor's tail
The visitor wants a cat to fill her empty nest as her two teenaged sons are off to ANU soon. She has a 14 year old King Charles spaniel who is a sook. She wants an older cat. I tried not to push Ginger George too hard at her but he did behave beautifully flopping at her feet. But she also liked Libby (what is not to like when she is awake). She will be back tomorrow with her strong minded friend who owns a carrier.
He needs to loose the Cattitude sign.

A neighbour couple came to visit. The man was very comfortable with cats. He picked up Ginger George and rolled him onto his back. I wouldn't be so bold. But no blood was spilled.

Dexter is boarding. Remember how miserable he looked when he first came to us. . . . all mangey. Then he was grumpy and bored in his stand alone. He is quite charming now.

Dexter

Jasmine and her kittens are still in the play place. The kittens seem to have got over the STARVING stage so she is not so desperate for food either. Makes it easy for the vollies to go in to play with them.

Jasmine
Piglet was hiding when Robyn took these photos on Wednesday.

PS: Apropos the title: Jolene, I am told, doesn't like to use her litter box when there are people around. She was looking very swollen in the tummy this afternoon. But should be slim by the morning.

Cleo adopted

Cleo was adopted today by the nice grandmother who came with her granddaughter last week (or two?) She wanted to wait until after her weekend guests had visited to choose a cat so that she could spend quality time with the new cat. She certainly got all the tips and tricks that she could out of Lucy and Tim so I hope that she is prepared for Cleo's occasional lapses.

Cleo with the reasons that she is occasionally testy

Tofu was adopted yesterday so the little stand alone is empty again.  It seems to be the good luck cage at the moment (probably because it usually has a kitten in it.) Everybody is charmed by Puss who is just inside the front door including a family of 3 women and 3 kids who came late this afternoon, looking for a young cat suitable for kids. The older boy was very confident with all the cats . . . Ginger George let this boy stroke his flank after he flopped on this side at their collected feet. But the younger ones were a bit wary (wise kids) and there is a 3year old at home. They will look at the blog for the kittens who are in foster homes that we know are acclimated to children. Libby asked not to be shown to children.
Libby
Jolene's back legs are improving. She walks on them now. She will be ready to run with Tabby and Phantom soon.
Jolene
Marmalade and Duke are feeling much better.

Marmalade and Duke
Robyn spent some time in the play place with Ruby and company so that she could cool down after being in the kitchen. We need to set up a fan in there on hot days with lots of washing up.
Ruby the mother

We don't know who is whom and the fourth was
asleep in a hidey hole.

Irresistable Peach

They came back early to get Peach today. She didn't really want to get into a carry cage but luckily Tim did the adoption and the transfer so no blood was shed. Here is the proof:

"Please Clean" on Pearch's condo

You can tell it was in the later part of the afternoon because Yin and Yan are out on observation duty. There is a plan afoot to move them to the pair of condo's with the connecting hatch currently occupied by Lucky and Suki.

A couple came in today looking for a "bonded" pair. They were after Midnight and Pumpkin but as they don't want the cats until Feb 20. . . . that train has left the station. They will keep an eye on the website between now and then now that they have met everybody.

If the move of Yin and Yan works well, I suggested that Sydney be added to the mixture so that that family of boys can be reunited.

Chikka has been moved to next to Max (on the other side from Libby)

Chikka
She was a bit shocked. She had been in boarding and Rosanna let her out for a wander this afternoon. Salazar spotted her and chirruped in a very suggestive manner.

Archie was adopted yesterday (or Thursday) by the person who was going to foster him. Chessy has moved into his condo. She has had some changes in the last week or so! (From male to female, desexed, moved).

Chessy

She is now next to Rebel who was playing with his ping pong ball after chicken time.

Rebel
A pile of cat carriers went to the vet for check ups this afternoon: Jolene, the little kitten in Incoming with the underdeveloped legs, Tiger with the funny tummy and Puss with no teeth.

Irene reports on her foster cats

Meggsy

Meggsy
is such a cuddle bug. HIs walking is a bit off (just monitoring to see if it is the 14 months inactivity or something neurological). Once I worked that out I’ll get him chipped and vaccinated and make him available.

Magic is still very shy and hissing but she does eat in front of me and happy to come out.

Magic
Amy loves to be stroked and has found her purr. I’d love to adopt her but we decided 4 cats is enough especially since we have one highly allergic daughter.

BIn Happy Day

We now have a second rubbish bin. It was filled and put on the street in time for the pick up this morning. Helen took home 15 bags over the weekend. So the poo bag mountain is melting like the . . . . any comparison that springs to mind is just too ecologically depressing on such a happy occasion.

We had visitors. One came with a large box of single scratchy poles, brand new that we can sell (or give one each to all the cats in Welfare who needs a scratchy) amongst other things. She had a thorough conducted tour. Another woman was delighted to find us because she has a business cat sitting for clients on the other side of the harbour. She often gets cat things given to her by her clients. She is happy to have somewhere to donate them on the side of the bridge that she now lives on. Somebody else rang to offer us a feather doona. . . . no thank you. A couple came to inspect Pearl and Ginger. They have a FIV cat at home and would like another. Peach froze while Ginger who happened to be out when they visited, threw himself at their feet and was his charming self in spades. They chose Peach because they think that Ginger (George) will easily get a home. They will come back on the weekend to do the deed.

Jasmine's kittens in the play place have figured out how to play with the reticulated python toy.

Max was very happy to be offered the Top Cat.
Max

His neighbour is Libby. I had to wake her up to give her a pill with her dinner. She was fast asleep and only woke up after I stratched her forehead for 5 seconds. . . . most uncommon. Once awake she headed straight for her food bowl.
Libby

Last Friday, Puss fell asleep and did a face plant on his shelf. He woke up as I pulled my camera from my pocket. . . . a much more usual reaction to being looked at even though asleep.

Melody was out this afternoon. She seems happier out of the far corner of "Better Row"

Melody
And Lola just wants to play when she tries to scratch you.
Lola
Rosie and Callie are due back next week. Sigh.
